This week marks week one of 12-week Biggest Loser competition that Sam has started at his work. They are doing a team-based weight loss challenge that will extend to their spouses as well if they want to participate (this goes for YOU too). The winter months start to take their toll on your fitness level and overall health, so this will be a great way to invigorate your body and to work towards showin' off a little skin in the warmer months (who am I kidding, it was 70 here yesterday - not complaining).
Week One
-Cut out all processed foods and sugars.
-Cut out grains.
-Cut out fruit minus a handful of berries a day.
-Cut out drinks other than water (this includes alcohol - sorry).
-Cut out diet anything. Diet drinks or sweeteners actually make you gain weight and are full of harmful chemicals.
-Add in lots of green vegetables. Avoid the starchy ones.
-Eat healthy proteins like grass-fed beef, free range chicken, turkey, etc.
-Drinks lots of water
with lemon. Drinking lemon in your water actually speeds up your metabolism.
-Cook with coconut oil and avoid all other oils over high heat. Olive oil is great for salads!
-Try my favorite breakfast: Greek yogurt with nuts, tiny amount of preserves, cinnamon, and a little pinch of organic shredded, unsweetened coconut.
-Exercise should include: walking, yoga, light cardio. Nothing too strenuous. We'll ease in to all of that.
This is a quick way to drop up to 5 lbs. We'll be re-introducing fruit after the next two weeks. Wanna join us? Leave me a comment and I'll be sure to help keep you motivated.

I'm all about getting fit for bathing suit season, and I'd love to participate . . . after I finish my period. Ha.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very close to the plan we have for a challenge at our chiropractors office! I have been tuning in to your blog for healthy ideas for a long time and would love more over the next couple of (difficult) weeks! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for reading miranda! i am working on getting more and more up. good luck in your challenge. :)
DeleteAgh! I read this first thing this morning and was really inspired. Then I worried about cutting out my usual caffeine (having that headache with three little kids.) Then I thought I'd try to at least drink less (eek!) Diet Coke today. I didn't have the best luck and feel sheepish even admitting it:) But I honestly thought about this post all day and know I can't keep making excuses. Are you off coffee completely? Are you starving all day?
ReplyDeleteYour greek yogurt sounds yummy! I just cut out grains today, so I'll join in.
ReplyDeleteyay jen! it makes it so easy in the morning where i find going without grains is the hardest.
DeletePS-Would you mind giving me a little inspiration on cutting out Diet Coke. It's my only vice (besides sweets:) But I really do believe it has made me gain more weight! Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteso, here's the deal with diet coke. with the risk of being dramatic, if you can change one thing... cut out diet coke. here's why: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/11/06/aspartame-most-dangerous-substance-added-to-food.aspx this is a totally legit health site with lots of info on the harmful nature of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners. i will still be having a cup of coffee in the morning, don't feel like you have to make all of the changes at once. i used to be a SERIOUS diet coke drinker and now i can't even fathom drinking it because i know how bad i used to feel when i drank it. change comes! i'm excited that you're inspired to want to make some changes. yay!
Deletewow! Thanks Lesley! I just read through it and I'm hoping this is enough to help me kick this habit. Do you have any tips on how you kicked it? I have been having "misty vision" and just figured it was my contact lenses fogging up on me. Thanks for passing the article along-I have been wanting to kick the habit for quite some time but just haven't found the willpower.
DeleteSo you feel so much better without it!? I'm guessing I don't even have a clue how good I could feel since I've been drinking it so long! That is sad. and motivating:)
PS-All I keep thinking about is how my body is almost being embalmed by drinking so much Diet Coke! Agh!
This sounds totally doable! I'll play!
ReplyDeleteLast year one of my friends did "Vegan-uary" in January and this year I was trying to do "Gluten-Free-anuary" but in the midst of picking up a third job, got too busy. Things have finally settled, so why not start back up!
gluten-free-anuary ha! that is hilarious. yay jinah, so glad you're in! you don't need to lose any weight but this will make your body feel really happy.
DeleteI'm in! I've already lost 4 pounds since the beginning of January 11! Woot! My ideal goal is to lose 20 more.
ReplyDeleteI'm a week late but I'm in!!
