GETTING READY FOR BABY/05

It's two am and I'm awake. I am so not a night owl, in fact I relish going to bed at 9:30 so this is quite the change for me. Seriously. I have a crazy case of heart burn/ reflux that's keeping me awake. Hoping this means the baby has lots of hair.

This week's getting ready for baby task is to research vaccines and find a pediatrician. Luckily I have the pediatrician all lined up and I love my doctor. I think it's really important to find someone that you connect with and I feel like my doctor is my friend. I would actually like to hang out with her, know what I mean? Although she fully supports vaccinations she has never once pressured me to do them. Matilda has had her shots very spread out and I typically get the ones that she assures me are most important.

Here's a schedule for vaccines that the cdc recommends. I realize that this is a hot topic but I'm really curious about how you handle vaccines and what kind of schedule you go by (or do you not do them at all?). I'd really appreciate your feedback.

ps Thank you to everyone for the sweet birthday wishes for Matilda. It always warms my heart when people share in our love for that sweet girl. I felt like it was my birthday. :)

pps I've been dealing with some pretty intense feelings lately and would appreciate any prayers. Thanks so, so much.

  3. Both of my parents work in the medical field. We do the vaccines all at once whenever they're scheduled, including the flu shot. I also always get the flu shot and Greg and I both got the whooping cough vaccine. (They will probably offer it to you in the hospital after you have the baby.) I don't understand why you would spread them out? It just seems like more sad doctors visits to me. (Not to be jerky or anything, I just really don't know what the reasoning would be.)

I hope you feel better soon. ALMOST THERE!

    1. well it actually doesn't create more dr appts because we never got all of the ones that they recommended. by spread out i mean that we didn't do them all at once, or some of them at all.

thanks girl, can't come fast enough!

  5. It's always nice to find someone else who is cautious about vaccines. I don't think enough people know that they have options! my baby is 10 months, and hasn't had any vaccines yet. The earliest I will start them is 2 years old. I recently moved, and am searching for a pediatrician that is great, and will see us! Some will not take us because we choose not to vaccinate. It is seriously a nightmare!

  6. Since I'm currently pregnant with our first (due in late October!), I don't have anything specific to add about vaccines or anything but I wanted to let you know that I definitely read this around 2am and sent good thoughts your way. Solidarity in pregnancy insomnia! :)

  7. We are waiting for Josiah to be a year before we start vaccines and even then I am not sure we will get them. I am definitely not getting all of them. I am still doing lots of research. Honestly the whole subject makes me feel like I might vomit, it makes me so nervous. But I have been doing lots of praying and studying and I am leaning more and more towards a much slower more modified schedule to none at all. You should get Dr. Sears book on vaccines, I have heard it is very good. I can also send you a list of the ingredients in the vaccines if you like.

  8. It is more stressful to deal with a serious illness than getting a vaccine. People that chose not to are living in the bubble that we create.

  9. One thing to think about is that all the research that has been done (and A LOT has been done) has all been on the schedule that the CDC puts out. There are no studies done on what "spaced out" schedule is best, or what the effects may be.

  10. We did the vaccines as recommended by our pediatrician. However, our family does not do flu shots and I refused the rotovirus vaccine too. I know it is a heavily debated topic and always caused me anxiety too. Saying an extra prayer for you!

  11. It's frustrating to read comments like the first "Anonymous"...the reason so many parents are now spacing vaccines or eliminating some or all is because VACCINES are causing just as much harm at times as having the disease itself! Sometimes children are fully vaccinated and STILL become ill. We have a steady rise in autism, ADD and a whole slew of other "disorders" which have been linked to the harmful and highly toxic ingredients in these vaccinations..I'll spare the lecture because this isn't a debate but as a parent you are your child's only advocate, it's important to educate yourself.

  12. We chose not to vaccinate our baby after months of research and anxiety! We also chose against giving the vitamin k injection that is routinely given at birth. We have immunized our daughter using Homeoprophylaxis which is the homeopathic way of immunizing. It's very safe and effective. I live in Australia and got my kit and information from Dr Isaac Golden through his website and through email. If you google him you should be able to find the website and possibly get a kit (I'm not sure if they post overseas). He is an expert in it and has done a lot of research and years of study into the effectiveness of it.

Let me know if you'd like any more info from me :)
    Good luck!
    Liz
