THE BEST SUGAR COOKIES

Last weekend we made sugar cookies. My Dad came over and helped. I'm trying to think of fun things to do with Matilda that are special. Usually the weekends are the easiest, when Sam's home. If you're like me, you do things like google: "best sugar cookie recipe." These really didn't disappoint. They're soft and chewy and buttery. So.good. In fact we may make another batch for Santa. I think we will.

Original recipe makes 5 dozen

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

    Method:

  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

we also used this icing recipe but I subbed the almond for vanilla. heaven!

It was so much fun that I ordered this for future cookie ventures.
    Happy baking!

a special thank you to annette for matilda's adorable apron!

only a couple of days left to win this carrier. good luck!

    1. So fun! I made sugar cookies the other day, too. I don't even usually like them, but they're so dang cute with their shapes and decorations. :) My friend Lindsey uses that same recipe & swears by it!

    5. I just made these using your recipe and we loved them. The corn syrup in the frosting really did help it to harden better, so I will be using that recipe from now on. Thanks!
