One Year

Our baby is now a full year old. Phoebe Lynn turned one last tuesday. We had a small party with family. Sam made his famous enchiladas + house made margaritas. We had cupcakes with banana buttercream frosting. We tied a sparkly gold star + pink heart to her high chair and we sang. We bought her this fun toy and this book. We keep things simple around here. The only picture I got was this one. I wanted to be in the moment and we wanted to have her party on her birthday so it was dark and the lighting was dim, so celebrate fully we did. I put a lot of pressure on myself (as bloggers usually do) to perfectly capture each moment but I gave in and just ate and laughed and kitchen danced and soaked it all up.
So, so much happens the first year of welcoming a new life to your family. I get super teary thinking about her birth, the smell of rosemary + glow of twinkling lights + sound of Bing Crosby are as fresh now as they were on that day (you can read her birth story here if you'd like). I laugh as I think about us packing up our tiny house and moving in with my Dad when she was five weeks old. She didn't even have a room until 6 months ago, she slept sweetly in a closet. She is easy going (unless she's hungry) and boy am I grateful for that.Right now our little one loves eating pomegranate seeds, crawling without her knees touching the ground, waving and growling. "Tilda" was her first word and she also says Dada (with such excitement when Sam gets home) and Mama (only when she's crying) and sometimes "yeah" and one time "duck." It's always sort of shocking when she does something new. Sometimes I think she'll be a baby forever and then she'll catch me off guard with a new trick. On her birthday she blew me a big kiss when I got her from her crib. You melt me Bee. We sure do love you lots.
A couple of weeks ago Joni invited us to her lovely home for a fun Portrait Party with Kate Byars Photography. Kate was such a gem and I just love these snaps that she got of Phoebe days before her first birthday. I treasure them. If you live in Atlanta I highly suggest you check Kate out (this is not a plug - just spreadin' the word about good photos).

  5. Love those photos of Bee! It's so hard (for me!) to believe she's already 1. It seems like yesterday I was reading her birth story. Happy Birthday, sweet girl.
