Matilda's Room Tour

Welcome to Matilda's room! We spent the weekend dressing cleaning it up to share it with you. Whenever I am creating a space for my girls, I just want it to feel imaginative and child-centric. I want everything to be designed around them. For Matilda, she is so bright and effervescent and I wanted her room to be a reflection of her. Every detail was done with her in mind and I wanted it to look joyful but in a modern and fresh way. I am shelf crazy so her room has lots of them. Not only are shelves great storage but they are also a way to display vintage books and special toys that I don't think should be tucked away. I think if I could live in this room that I would.

This chifferobe belonged to Sam's parents and it's one of the few pieces of furniture that we moved from Mississippi. Mama Lou had it in her sewing room and I always loved it. It has lots of natural wear and tear and the drawers are annoying to open and close but it's a treasure. That large chinese lantern was a seed factory find as well as the chair from little nest. We hung a vintage chalkboard above the chair for easy doodling.

This amazing gold dot set of sheets has the prettiest shimmer to it and I am pretty obsessed with red and mustard together. I just like it. Probably has something to do with my love of hamburgers. Either way I think it's unexpected and playful which is just my jam. The red set is from IKEA. I added some repetition with these gold glitter banners that we hung with washi tape. The tooth fairy and alligator pillows were both find at Anthropologie years ago.

We bought the cotton striped rug from west elm to use in our kitchen but it didn't work. Luckily I love it in here. That was my childhood table that we painted in stripes. Matilda's bed was also mine growing up and it used to belong to my Papa. I love these beautiful heirlooms. The matching side tables are from IKEA and we used hardware from Anthro to change them up a little bit. The black lights were from like Office Depot or something and they make the best reading lamps. My new favorite addition to the room is that outrageously adorable hot pink coat rack from The Land of Nod. They were so kind to send us over a few things and I could not have been happier with the sturdiness of the rack and obvious good looks.

The book shelf that Sam made with the help of Joni's Dad's awesome tutorial is so, so great. Story time is so much more fun! I've been putting different books in here to make it easy for Til to pick out a couple each night (and afternoon if I'm lucky). A couple of favorite books right now: Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet, The Snowy Day, Bear in Underwear (anything potty oriented is a winner), Miss Lina's Ballerinas, I Had a Favorite Dress, Little Owl Lost, No Fits Nilson, and Princess Matilda (naturally :)).

One of the biggest challenges with keeping Matilda's room clean is LAUNDRY. This metal dot floor bin is the perfect size for a little person's hamper and it won't get too full to wear you have a week's worth piled upstairs. I bought that Room Seven fox sweater dress at seed factory and I can't get enough of the colors and embroidery. It looks like art to me.

I'm a color organizer and red is clearly a favorite. This Red "Hues You Can Use" art print kills me. The simple illustrations get me every time. My Mama brought that red panda book back from Italy and I just think it's great. The tea set is also from seed factory.

These striped storage bins hold up to ten lbs and are so much bigger in person. They are work horses which I think every parent loves, right? The rope handle makes it perfect for collecting toys that make their way downstairs as well. This chalkboard is an IKEA classic if you aren't familiar.

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer. The upstairs was an add-on so the room is all new construction with funny little bump outs to make the HVAC work. I love the way they add character to their rooms.
