Bringing Home Chickens

We recently became chicken people. I blame quarantine but actually we’ve been wanting to get chickens for over a decade and it made us finally take the plunge. So excited to share with you how to get ready for your own chicks as well as our first few weeks with our girls.

We went in with our neighbors and have a mix of Black Langshans and White Cochins. We purchased them through McMurray Hatchery and they arrived at the Post Office to pick up (crazy, huh?!).

Here’s a list of what you will need to have to be ready for your chicks:

• A roosting bin - we are using a large tupperware bin

• Organic Feed

• Feeder and Waterer set

• Pine shavings

• Coop Refresher

• Apple Cider Vinegar

• Probiotics

• Electrolytes

• Grit - it helps digestion

• Eggs

• Heating Plate

• A top for your bin
