Spring garden

We moved in this past fall and left the land surrounding our freshly renovated home to its own devices. We lived with mud/straw all winter and then Sam worked SO hard early spring in prepping the land for a flagstone path. I feel like that needs its own post but it was truly a labor of love and I’m so impressed with the level of care and detail he puts into anything he does. We used flagstone for the porch and side porch landings as well as the the skirt above the granite (my Dad’s idea!) so he took the leftover flagstone and had it matched to create the path.

I forgot to mention that last fall we did plant limelight hydrangeas around the front porch only. It actually is the best time to plant trees/shrubs so that they get strong roots over winter and they don’t need as much water with the cooler temps but alas we are playing the slow game so we continued the hydrangeas this spring around the side of the house leading to the side porch. We also added variegated hostas to the front beneath the hydrangeas.

For color we planted red geraniums in pots on the front porch and Sam planted these beautiful purple verbenas to the side porch.

We planted a groundcover called Mazus to fill in between the flagstone. It won’t get tall and has the prettiest little purple flowers!

We have lots of plans like a vegetable garden and adding a lot of cottage perennials but one step at a time!
