Finding Balance

Let me start out by saying that finding balance as a mother of young ones is a myth (from what I can tell). I think finding balance as a working mother is a big fat myth. So, I'm not going to be talking today about "tips on finding balance." I just want to let you know, you're not alone. If your work is succeeding, most likely you didn't whip up a homecooked meal. If your kitchen is spotless, most likely you are now behind deadline and have 10 emails to respond to. If you're cuddling with your babies, the pile of laundry grows bigger. It just is... what it is. I get frustrated by this fact because I want it all, but that's impossible...

Lately I've heard so many mamas going through this same battle. We beat ourselves up man. Women in general have tremendous to-do lists. I mean, I feel like I am constantly forgetting something. After all of the checking off, wiping, and kissing is done for the day I am just spent. I mean, spent. Last night I went to bed with mascara on and without brushing my teeth... I just couldn't. I tell you this not to gross you out but to hopefully comfort some of you going through the same struggles - of getting it all done, being an amazing mom, wife, friend, etc. It ain't easy. I will say that I have matured through wearing this new hat. I have notsomuch grace for myself, but TONS for everyone around me. Can't meet for coffee? I get it. Forgot my birthday? I understand. Couldn't remember your husband's phone number? I hear you.

I found this passage from Jesus Calling to be particularly timely for me a couple of days ago and I'd love to share it with you guys in the event that it will be a source of power in your day:

Do not let any set of circumstances intimidate you. The more challenging your day, the more of My Power I have placed at your disposal. You seem to think that I empower you equally each day, but this is not so. Your tendency upon waking is to assess the difficulties ahead of you, measuring them against your average strength. This is an exercise in unreality.

I know what each of your days will contain, and I empower you accordingly. The degree to which I strengthen you on a given day is based mainly on two variables: the difficulty of your circumstances, and your willingness to depend on Me for help. Try to view challenging days as opportunities to receive more of My Power than usual. Look to Me for all that you need, and watch to see what I will do. As your day, so shall your strength be.
