OUR BOOK ADVENT

OK, so I know it's a wee bit early to break out the merry making, BUT I am trying to be prepared for the Christmas season before the busyness truly sets in. I'm going to try and do fun little things each weekend for the girls to look forward to before I get stressed. : D Last weekend I wrapped up 26 books (the majority of which we already owned and were saved from my childhood) for our book advent. Oh the nostalgia! I wanted to share with you what we'll be reading and also ask to hear some of your favorite Christmas books, too (

look for a fun discount from

chronicle books

at the end!

). I love having a healthy mix of the real story of Christmas and fun, magical books like...

The first book we will be reading is

The Elf on the Shelf

. Thanksgiving night we are going to bust this book open and I have a feeling our house elf Ook might make an appearance. The creators of this genius book are from Marietta. Makes me proud.

If I had to pick a favorite... I think it would be

Angelina's Christmas

. I lovedddd this book as a child and Matilda loves the entire series. So fun to be able to share this vintage copy with my girls.

Some of my other treasured childhood books are the the Little Golden Books.

Santa's Surprise Book

has the best vintage illustrations and we love the

Bears' Christmas

!

The Grinch

has to make everyone's list, right? This book + this movie are an annual tradition.

Matilda loves

Jingle Bells

and singing the song at the end and Richard Scarry's

Christmas Mice

is one of my personal faves.

This touch and feel board book was given to me on my very first Christmas!

Santa's Beard is Soft and Warm

is a vintage classic. I can still smell the way the scratch and sniff tree smelled.

Three more Golden Books we love:

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Shines Again

, The Christmas Story (similar

here

), and we adore

The Biggest Most Beautiful Christmas Tree.

I also wrapped up

One-Minute Christmas Stories

by Shari Lewis (remember Lambchop?!).

We will be reading the ABC's of Christmas,

The Twelve Days of Christmas,

and

ABC is for Christmas

! Also on the calendar:

Mickey's Christmas Carol

,

Madeline's Christmas

, and

Frosty the Snowman

.

I ordered

Christmas Eve at the Mellop's

for the girls last year. I love having a few new books that are specific to their childhood memories. What an awesome job we have to create those! Other new books this year (just ordered a few!):

Mortimer's Christmas Manger

 - a new favorite. love that way it blends the excitement of Santa with Jesus!,

Santa's Favorite Story

 - so sweet,

The Pajama Elves

- a fun way to give Christmas pajamas and get little ones to sleep on Christmas Eve!

The Littlest Angel

is such a sweet book about a little angel not fitting in and his special gift to the Christ child. The Shepard's Christmas is another vintage book that we loved reading. The illustrations are so tender and beautiful.

I wrapped them all up with the cutest wrapping paper from Target and washi tape. I tied a few up with

glitter twine

from Knot and Bow (my favorite!). I seriously use this twine for everything. So versatile!

A fun idea this year:

Chronicle Books (one of my favorite publishers!) has personalized Christmas books that you can order like

The Night Before Christmas

and

Olive, the Other Reindeer

. Matilda would looove to see her name right next to Santa's. I feel really sure about that. Right now they are offering

30% off

all personalized books just for signing up for

their newsletter.

So fun!

I would love to hear what books are on your reading list this year! Have you ever done a book advent? I think it's so fun and I'm excited to play along with the girls this Christmas. Can't wait!
