The Art Barn

Last week I experienced one of my favorite memories I've made with the girls so far. My dear friend Rebecca invited us and my long time friend Emily and her boys to go visit The Art Barn in Canton, GA. I had no idea what to expect, didn't even read the about page and off we went. Luckily Rebecca is organized and sent us a few tips for the day: sunscreen, bug spray, packed lunch, closed toe shoes.

When we pulled up, I knew it was my kind of place. Big, bright barns, folk art, loose chickens. I was so excited to experience it all with Til and Bee. The first thing we did was learn about chickens. The kids got to hold farm fresh eggs, touch baby chicks (ee!) and even hold full-size chickens! Matilda said, "Mama, I was a little afraid." Ha!

Phoebe was into the egg but notsomuch the week old chick. Her face! Matilda experienced it all and was so brave! Loved seeing her hold "Vera Bradley." She was a trooper.

This lady was amazing! Her accent was the best and I want to be her when I grow up.

Afterwards the kids got to learn more about the other farm animals (sheep, goats, pigs, goats, donkeys, ponies) and pet them.

Next we rode "tractor Matilda" (seriously.) and got a tour of the working farm. Phoebe wasn't super thrilled but it was a quick ride and Matilda loved it. At the end the tractor dropped us off next to the art barn where the kids painted chickens.

The very end of the day was spent in the vegetable farm where they have loads of picnic tables and wet wipes, etc. I was super impressed by some of the picnic lunches I saw. My poor kids loved their pb&js. Ha! This is one of the best experiences for the 8 and under crowd. A perfect morning.
