New Year Thoughts

Happy Ephiphany and happy 2023! Time to finally put away our beautiful Christmas bits and bobs… thinking about leaving the tree and lights for the rest of January because why not?! I’ve decided not to play by the rules anymore when it comes to traditions, seasons, etc. One of the ways I am rebelling is I am no longer setting myself up for failure in January. Winter is for turning inward, journaling, making soup, tending to our souls and catching up on chores. It is counter intuitive to nature to completely change our lives and go hard in January. Nothing else in nature does this. I’ve let culture dictate terms for too long and I am so.much.happier. I didn’t feel rushed to wipe away Christmas or sabotage my nervous system with insane expectations.

Here are the things I’m working on in January:

  • Having a beautiful morning routine with a diffuser going, warm cup of coffee, this playlist on repeat, doing the Bible recap, journaling and reading for 15 minutes.

  • Our emotions are processed through movement and when we feel stuck it’s the easiest way to move forward. Focusing on 30 minutes of movement a day. Sometimes I take a walk and listen to a podcast, sometimes I ride my Peleton or do weights. I can tell a HUGE difference in my mental health when I do this!

  • I have been been working a lot on my mindset around several hard areas that have knocked me on my booty these last few years so reading a lot and listening to podcasts a lot and then journaling constantly to rework my thoughts.

  • Sunday planning: taking time to fill out my planner on Sunday (I’m using the Start Brands planner this year!). I have highlighters that I use to give me a visual of where my time is going, one color for work, one for the girls, one for FUN, one for faith, one for to-dos, etc! It gives me power back in my time so that I’m not just reacting to life!

So that’s it! Focusing on routine, creating a life we love, being proactive, and going inward to be able to full blossom in spring. Love to all of you!!!
