New Year Goal Setting as a Family

In 2017 we started an annual tradition of getting away as a family to reflect on the year and set intentions together for the coming trip around the sun. I started a saved “New Year” album on Airbnb and booked trips in Howard, GA (sadly no longer a rental), Cornersville, TN and Lieper’s Fork, TN. With this year being totally crazy with COVID and being under contract for a big new project, we decided to stay home.

If you want to start your own family tradition, here’s what we do:

  • We typically book a trip from December 27th-December 29th or 30th (you could do a staycation as well!)

  • Unplug - no phones, no computers, no iPads. This is sadly the one week of the year that this happens and it’s completely magical.

  • Board games, puzzles, legos, cooking together, movies, journaling, reading (I’m currently reading and loving this), card games, etc. for family fun.

  • Go for hikes, stroll the city, explore small towns, eat at cozy restaurants.

  • Bring lots of yummy food and wine and comforts.

  • Bring a planner - I write down everyone’s goals and thoughts and hopes for the new year in the back of my planner and we revisit it the next year.

  • Ask everyone what their favorite and least favorite parts of the year were and what they want more of in the new year! I LOVE to hear everyone’s answers and it’s just the best time of hearing my people’s hearts.

  • Make mini goals for the following areas: health, family, friends, fun, work, faith, finances.

  • HAVE FUN!

It’s amazing what happens when you get away from all of life’s demands and focus in on the good stuff. I hope that your family will love this tradition as much as we do! XO - L
